How to Prepare for the Big Day – Fueling your Body

Stress is high

Tummy ache of anxiety

Too nervous to sleep…

So what do you do?

Handling Pre-Performance Nerves: How to Prepare for the Big Day

We’ve all been there – the night before a big performance, stress levels through the roof, and that dreaded tummy ache of anxiety. It’s completely normal to feel nervous before stepping onto the stage, but there are ways to manage those jitters and set yourself up for success.

So, what do you do when you’re too nervous to sleep and the stress is high? How can you actually prepare for the big day? Let’s break it down into three key priorities: Diet, Rest, and Focus.

  • Diet: Fuel Your Body Right
Eating the right foods can make a huge difference in how you feel. As performers, we often worry that our food will upset our tummy or it will fill us up.

Let me tell you about a story…

I wish I could say I’ve always been a good, healthy eater, but that’s far from the truth. My eating habits have been a constant challenge, and confidence in this area has never come easily. Often, I forget to eat, leaving me feeling weak and drained.

One performance day stands out in my memory. I was so caught up in the excitement and nerves that I completely skipped breakfast and lunch. By the time I was on stage, I could feel the effects: my focus wavered, my energy plummeted, and I made mistakes that could have been easily avoided. Worse yet, I risked injury from being lightheaded and unsteady.

It was a hard lesson learned. I’ve realized that I’m only at my best when I plan ahead and fuel my body properly. Now, I make it a priority to eat balanced meals with protein, healthy fats, and carbs, especially on performance days. It’s not always easy, and I still have moments where I forget, but I’ve seen the difference it makes.

So, if you’re like me and struggle with eating habits, remember this story. Your body needs the right fuel to perform at its peak, and a little planning can go a long way. Trust me, it’s worth it.

Fast food is not the answer for performance days.

Performing can be nerve-wracking, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. By prioritizing your diet, rest, and focus, you can turn those nerves into positive energy and shine on stage.

Break a leg! You’ve got this.
